I don't know your name, but I know the stirring in your heart and the agony that comes with that stirring. I understand the daily tug-of-war that plays out in your mind. One day life seems good and the next day your soul churns to, "There has to be more" and "Something needs to change."
I feel the desperation in your heart as you want to make a change but fear what that change looks like. And I see the tears that fall as you wonder if anyone else feels this way.
Friend, I'm here today to tell you that you are not alone.
I know and feel your hurt and pain because I too lived out this struggle. For years I knew I needed to make a change, but the fear and 'what if's' kept me from having the courage to take that next step.
I worried about what I would do and who I would be once I made that change. And I worried about the questions I would receive from others. I needed to have an answer when someone was going to ask me, "What are you going to do now?"
It took me over three years to finally have the courage to say 'no more.' It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. The fear of the unknown was very real and scary.
But, what I received on the other side of change was so much more than I could have ever imagined. I want everyone to feel the freedom that comes with saying good-bye to the old, and hello to the new.
When I finally said yes to change, I let go of the chains that were binding me to a lifestyle God was calling me out of.
While it took some time for me to feel God's presence in the situation, once I did, the chains that once bound me were broken and I was free and new again. What an amazing feeling this was!
At the time, I didn't know my nudges, feelings, and cravings for change was God's way of getting my attention. He was trying to tell me to follow Him, to relinquish control of a life that no longer was serving me, and to simply trust Him.
I had no idea He was calling me to a new season of life.
"For every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).
For ten years I was in a season of building and embracing my talents as I advanced in my career. Those years served me well. But, they were not meant to last. God was calling me out of this season and into a new calling and purpose in life.
Friend, the pull you get from wondering if there is more to life, is God's way of knocking on your door. He wants you! He wants you for a new purpose; a calling that is unique to only you!
If you don't answer His knock, who will do the assignment that God has created for you?
If you find yourself wanting a change but wondering what your next steps are, I encourage you to do the following:
Pray, pray, and pray!
Tell God that you are ready to answer His new call for your life. He will not throw your life into one big turmoil mess, but He will simply give you the next step. All you need to do is ask and trust Him.Start with this simple prayer:
"Dear God, I want to follow you. I want you to guide my life as you lead me toward my new calling and purpose that only I can do. Show me the next step so that I can faithfully and obediently follow you. Amen."
Journal about your fears, worries, and prayers.
When you spend time writing, your fears and worries naturally untangle and your prayer requests become visible. I find it so much easier to see God answering my prayers when I write them out!
